Call Disposition
A call disposition is the label recorded at the end of a call that says how it ended, such as connected, voicemail, no answer, transferred, or do not call.
Every call should end with a disposition. It turns a pile of calls into data you can act on. Dispositions drive retries, follow-up tasks, CRM updates, and reports.
A typical disposition list:
- No answer
- Busy
- Voicemail left
- Wrong number
- Connected, not interested
- Connected, call back later
- Qualified, transferred
- Meeting booked
- Do not call
Tips for a good disposition setup:
- Keep the list short. If reps have 30 options, they pick the first one that fits.
- Make each disposition trigger something. "Call back later" should create a task with a date. "Wrong number" should remove the number. "Do not call" should add it to your internal do-not-call list immediately.
- Sync dispositions to your CRM so marketing and sales see the same picture.
- Review dispositions weekly. A rise in "wrong number" points to list quality. A rise in "not interested" may point to targeting or the opening line.
AI calling tools often set dispositions automatically based on the conversation. Spot check them against recordings, especially the do-not-call disposition, since that one has legal weight.
