Lead List
A lead list is a collection of contacts, with names, phone numbers, and other details, that a sales team plans to reach.
Lead lists come from many places: website forms, event signups, past customers, partner referrals, and sometimes purchased data. The source matters a lot for calling, because consent depends on how the lead entered your list.
What a good lead list includes:
- Name and company.
- Phone number in a consistent format, such as E.164 (+1 followed by the number).
- Email.
- Time zone or location.
- Lead source and date.
- Consent record: what language they agreed to, when, and where.
- Opt-out status.
Common problems:
- Duplicates that cause the same person to get called twice.
- Old numbers that were disconnected or reassigned.
- Missing time zones, which risks calls outside allowed hours.
- Unknown consent, especially on bought lists.
Before uploading a list to a dialer or AI calling tool:
- Remove duplicates.
- Scrub against the National Do Not Call Registry and your internal do-not-call list.
- Check older numbers against the Reassigned Numbers Database.
- Remove anyone without clear consent for the kind of call you plan to make.
A smaller clean list beats a big messy one every time.
