Live Call Monitoring

Live call monitoring is listening to a call while it happens, usually by a manager or rep, without joining the conversation.

Call centers have used live monitoring for decades to train new agents and check quality. The listener hears the call in real time, while the people on the call do not hear the listener.

Common uses:

• Coaching new reps.
• Checking that scripts and required disclosures are followed.
• Jumping in when a call goes off track or a hot lead appears.
• Reviewing AI agents in real time to see how they handle objections.

• Barge: the listener joins the call so everyone can hear them.
• Takeover: the listener replaces the agent on the call.

With AI SDRs, live monitoring can be especially useful. A rep can listen to the AI agent's call and send guidance mid call, by typing or speaking, then take over when the lead is ready.

Recording and consent laws can apply to monitoring, since a third party is listening. Telling callers that calls may be monitored or recorded at the start is a common and safe practice, especially when calling into states that require all-party consent.
