Parallel Dialer
A parallel dialer is a calling tool that dials several numbers at the same time for one rep and connects the rep to the first person who answers.
Parallel dialers aim to cut the time reps spend listening to rings and voicemail greetings. A rep might have three to five lines ringing at once. When a live person picks up, the tool connects the rep and hangs up or handles the other lines.
Benefits:
- More live conversations per hour for each rep.
- Less time waiting on unanswered calls.
Risks and tradeoffs:
- If two people answer at once, one may hear silence or a hang-up. That can count as an abandoned call, which federal rules limit to three percent of live-answered calls per campaign over 30 days.
- People who hear a pause before anyone speaks are more likely to hang up or report the number.
- Higher call volume per number can hurt caller ID reputation.
If you use a parallel dialer, keep the number of lines modest, track your abandonment rate per campaign, and make sure an answered call reaches a rep within two seconds of the greeting. If it cannot, a short message with your business name and number must play.
Parallel dialers are popular with outbound teams. They are a different approach from AI SDRs, which talk to every answered call directly instead of racing to find a free rep.
