Retry Schedule
A retry schedule is the set of rules that decides when an unanswered call gets dialed again and how many times.
A retry schedule is the calling part of a cadence, usually automated by your dialer or AI calling tool. When a call goes unanswered, hits voicemail, or is busy, the schedule decides what happens next.
Typical settings:
- Maximum attempts per lead.
- Minimum gap between attempts, such as two hours.
- Allowed days and hours, based on the lead's local time.
- Different rules by outcome, for example a quick retry after a busy signal but a longer wait after a voicemail.
- What to do when attempts run out, such as creating a follow-up task.
Many tools offer presets. DialSwarm, for example, includes Fast, Steady, and Persistent schedules plus custom settings.
How to choose:
- Fresh inbound leads usually justify faster early retries.
- Older or lower-intent leads need fewer, more spaced out attempts.
- High-value accounts may get more attempts with human follow-up.
Guardrails matter. Every retry should check the internal do-not-call list and the calling window before it fires. If someone asked to stop, the schedule must end for that lead right away. Review results monthly to see which attempt numbers actually produce conversations.
