Voicemail Drop
A voicemail drop is a feature that leaves a prerecorded voicemail with one click when a call reaches an answering machine, so the rep can move to the next call.
Reps often leave the same voicemail dozens of times a day. Voicemail drop lets them record a message once, then drop it into any voicemail box while they move on.
How it usually works:
- The rep or the system detects a voicemail greeting.
- The rep clicks a button, or the system does it automatically.
- The recorded message plays into the voicemail box after the beep.
- The rep is already dialing the next lead.
Compliance matters here. A prerecorded voicemail is a prerecorded message under the TCPA. If it is a sales message, you generally need prior express written consent from the person, just as you would for a prerecorded call. The message must also identify your business and give a callback number. Some vendors market "ringless" voicemail, which skips the ring and drops straight to voicemail. The FCC ruled in 2022 that ringless voicemails are calls subject to the TCPA.
Good voicemail tips:
- Keep it under 30 seconds.
- Say who you are, why you are calling, and how to reach you.
- Reference what the person asked for, such as their quote request.
- Keep a few versions for different lead sources.
