Webhook
A webhook is an automatic message one app sends to another app's web address the moment an event happens.
Instead of one app asking another "anything new?" over and over, a webhook pushes the information right away. Think of it as a notification between apps.
Examples in sales:
- A new form submission on your website sends a webhook to your calling tool, which starts a call within minutes. This is a common way to improve speed to lead.
- When a call ends, the calling tool sends a webhook with the outcome, notes, and recording link to your CRM or a spreadsheet.
- When a lead is marked do not call, a webhook tells every other system to stop contacting them.
How it works:
- You give the sending app a URL from the receiving app.
- You choose which events trigger the webhook.
- When the event happens, the sending app posts data, usually in JSON format, to that URL.
If you are not technical, tools like Zapier and Make let you connect apps with webhooks without writing code.
Security tips: use HTTPS URLs, check signatures if the sending app provides them, and do not put sensitive data into tools that do not need it. Test with a sample event before going live.
